1. Summary
The overseas diplomatic missions of the Republic of Korea are undertaking tasks to ensure the safety and protection of Korean nationals abroad. This involves providing information and translations of local laws to help Korean nationals understand their legal rights and protect themselves from legal issues they may encounter locally.
Recently, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Kazakhstan commissioned a project to translate and provide a manual of the local criminal law, which was executed by KORUS LAW.
2. Our Role
Our team first identified the main points of the criminal law of the respective country and translated the key provisions. We then proceeded to 1) determine the differences between local law and Korean law, and 2) identify unique aspects of local culture that Koreans accustomed to Korean legal system might overlook. We provided simple charts and explanations to enhance understanding of the local law. The explanations were designed to be easily understood by a broader audience, not just legal experts, and were simplified with illustrations and charts to improve readability and comprehension.
This project can be checked on the website of the Korean embassy in Kazakhstan.

3. Significance
This project was meaningful because it provided plain translations of local laws and explanations that were free of legal errors, easily understandable through comparative analysis with Korean law. Furthermore, it was a highly rewarding task as it enabled the creation and dissemination of a manual that ensures Korean nationals residing in Kazakhstan to receive legal protection and exercise their rightful legal rights.
